I love Dolly Parton’s working nine to five song and it reminds me of fun nights out dancing with a friend that is no longer with us. I work fulltime and on days that seem never ending this song is so apt.
I enjoy working and am sadly not cut out to be a stay at home mum. While I love spending time with my two and would love slightly more time I know I couldn’t do it all day every day with no sign of a break. The fact I am not much of a home-maker would also put paid to that idea unless I could have a cook, cleaner etc etc.
I love getting adult company, doing my job and helping others but some days I can’t wait to get home to get cuddles with my two.
More often than not K and Buster are engrossed in whatever they are doing when I come home or go to collect them and as such they don’t come running with hugs in fact the complete opposite. At the start I found this extremely upsetting but now know they only do it as they know they can.
I wish I could be a more hands on mum that enjoys getting down and playing cars, trains and farms etc but it is just not for me. I do try though and will keep on trying. We love to dance and often have impromptu discos and racing round the house pretending to be trains, motorbikes or just running shouting ‘to Infinity and beyond’. We can often be found making craft projects or just snuggling together. I think we are doing ok and for now it is working.
I don’t think there is any right or better way for parents but the way that works for you and your family has to be the one that makes you all happy.
