After a busy week this one was a lot quieter!

Monday was a bank holiday in England but not one that I got in Northern Ireland.  i went to work while my mum and sister brought K and Buster to a Jubilee picnic- they forgot to take photos :-) I missed going to the lighting of the Beacon as MrR had to work and my two were sleeping.

Tuesday was a public holiday due to the Jubilee but as the weather was horrible we didn’t venture too far. Once my two were sleeping I finished off the puppet theatre and puppets.  A stomach bug is doing the rounds and I didn’t feel great

Wednesday K was back at school and I was in work.

Thursday – K is six! Happy birthday.

K went to school and Buster was to have gone to his child-minder but he thought he was missing something at home so wouldn’t stay! We collected K from school at 11 and went with Buster and MrR to stand at the side of the lough  and await the Olympic torch passing us- it was going on a boat across the lough.  The weather was freezing and raining and so we got soaked.

K and Buster then went off for a shopping trip with their Granny and great aunt (my in-laws) and had a fantastic time.  k came home like a teenager with at least 6 shopping bags. While they were away I started making K’s cake for her party.

Friday After work I collected K and Buster and went to mum and dads for chippy night, I also took the chance to run to Asda and get cake and party ingredients.  Once home I tried to get K and Buster to sleep and then started on teh cake.  I finally got to bed at 01:30 after finishing the cake, starting cupcakes (cheating ones), and sorting party bags etc.

Saturday the day of the party! Got up made frosting for cupcakes, cut fruit for Pirate boat, made three extra tutus, steamed floors etc and was still wearing my slippers when the party guests arrived.  All went well and everyone had fun.  Started to sleep train Buster tonight as he wouldn’t go to sleep despite being tired and after over an hour of lying beside him I was fed up! I sat beside him on a beanbag and after 1 1/2 hours he fell asleep.

Sunday was another unexpected sunny day! we didn’t go too far as my two were tired and grumpy. We visited mum and dads and then came home and painted wooden birdhouses outside.  Tonight was night two of sleep training Buster and it only took ten minutes with no tears, however he woke constantly through the night and I ended up sleeping on our large beanbag at the side of his bed.

K had her sixth birthday party today and decided she wanted a Tinkerbelle party, the fact she had 5 boys coming didn’t faze her at all! I decided to make it a Tinkerbelle and Pirates theme in order to please all.

Buster wanted a Peter Pan costume and wanted me to make it, I took the easy way out and ordered one on eBay- I didn’t get any pictures of him dressed up today.

K wanted the doll cake where the dress is the cake and a dolls body is stuck inside.  I got a cheap doll from Poundland took off its clothes and legs (much to Busters disgust!)and plated the hair then used this as the starting point. I wanted to make leaves to cover the dress but realised I was running out of time so rather than add veins to the leaves cut them out and stuck them all on individually.  The wings were made out of rice paper and I used edible glue to stick them on.

I made the boys bandannas and eye-patches out of a square piece of black material and black hat elastic ordered from Fabricland.  I rolled them all up and added a pirates name to each- again I forgot to take photos of them being worn which the boys did for most of the party!

The girls had tutus which I made following a pin on Pinterest, these involved no sewing and all the girls wore theirs from aged 10 right down to 4.

They also had wands which I made following another Pinterest link, I used ribbon in two colours doubled up and a wilton cookie stick.  I only realised at the last minute I needed a glue gun but got round it by using a staple gun and covering the staples with stick on gems.

This morning I decided to google napkin folding as you do and found this link which showed lots of ways to try, I decided on folding mine to leave a pocket in which two straws could be fitted in – I know I should be taken away for tests!

To eat we had cupcakes, dairy and egg free cupcakes (the chocolate looking ones), sweets, crisps, hotdogs, top-hats, sandwiches and a watermelon pirate boat.

I also did the icecream in bun cases tip in the freezer but took them out and forgot about them so they melted too much!

For party bags everyone got to take home their fairy or pirate items and a cone of sweets tied with ribbon

K loved it and had a great time, got spoilt rotten as normal but was very well behaved as were all the children who came.

The puppet theatre is still a work in progress and is going rather slowly.  I have made some puppets so far though and have attached pictures here.  The puppets aren’t great but we have proper shop bought ones too! This weekend I plan on making a fairy and a dog I think or maybe a fairy and a baby.  I also hope to make two sock puppets.

I am trying to get organised for K’s birthday party next week in which she wants a Tinkerbelle party with pirates for the boys- Tutus and bandanna’s have been made but eye-patches and wands are still a work in progress and the jury is still out on wings and swords! thankfully there are not too many coming to the party (12 in total)
