ISO

You are currently browsing articles tagged ISO.

I have taken some pictures of R’s spencer bear and included them below.  The photos were all taken under tungsten lightening using the same shutter speed and aperture but each time the ISO was changed from 100, 200, 400, 800 and finally 1600. The flash was all for all photos

Hopefully you can see some are darker than they should be while others are over exposed.

ISO

ISO in basic terms is how quickly the sensor reacts to light

In low lights use a higher ISO

  • 100               traditional studio setup very bright          less grain/noise
  • 200-400        daylight
  • 800               twilight
  • 1600             night ie full moon                                      lots of grain/noise

If you have artificial light sources then reduce your ISO

The lower down the ISO scale you go then the less grain/noise there will be in your picture

To capture light trails use a low ISO and a tripod over a longer period of time than normal ie : 20 seconds
