We have lived in our house for nearly eight years and for the first four it was a wreck, then we lived in it for a couple of years before extending.  We have it up for sale but without any luck so I think we now need to make it work for us.

The house is a bungalow in the country and as such we have furnished it with lots of old or made to measure furniture.  In order to keep it from looking really twee we have kept the decoration modern and without many ornaments etc.

I love the bedrooms, the kitchen and the main bathroom but need help in the living room and the shower room.

The shower room is too empty, we have no storage and I have no idea what will work in here, it is probably the most modern room in the house and has overtaken the main bathroom as being the one we use most.  I am fed up with everything being on the window sill and would love some ideas.

excuse the mess on the floor these were taken before we moved back in after the work was done!

The living room is a large room and we put huge patio doors and side windows in which I often regret.  They let in lots of light but restrict what we can do with the room.  We have a multi fuel burner and a huge brown leather sofa with a coffee table at one end. A large farmhouse style table and chairs in the middle.  In order to break up the room we added a platform in and carpeted it and use this as the area for watching TV.  I think we are going to add a brown leather chair to the platform but haven’t collected it from my mums yet! On the platform or ‘stage’ as it is called we have a large beanbag, a child’s rocking chair a cuddle chair and a small table.

We have wooden blinds on the two windows and striped fake curtains which plain cream working ones on the patio doors.
We have nowhere to display things in here and have no shelves, sideboards or anything similar.  It has worked up to now but I really want somewhere to put candlesticks, framed pictures etc and somewhere to hide everyday things!

I have no idea what I am looking for and would love some ideas, I have joined Pininterest and will be pinning anything that looks suitable. The companies we used to make our furniture are no longer in business so that isn’t an option. I would love some ideas if anyone has any?

all photos are old as we don’t have a playpen any longer etc and are just there as an idea of what I am talking about

>I have been very busy recently and as such haven’t had the time I would like to spend trying to get organised.  I am not organised by nature but normally rely on lists upon lists to make sure I don’t miss or forget anything.

Recently though I haven’t even had a chance to make lists which means I am constantly running to catch up.  This week alone I have let the library books go overdue, have missed ordering medicines, wasn’t sure when K had her school play, have forgotten when K goes on her school cinema trip and when she finishes for Christmas.  I also have no idea when MrR is working and live each day with a feeling of chaos.

I have also tried to do christmassy crafts with K and Buster and even these have been an unmitigated disaster.

We decided to make painted angels, I read how to do it, covered the table up, got Buster to wear an apron and got paint and paper out.  I even ran a bath so I could deposit them in it as soon as the painting was finished.

We got started, I painted Busters hands made the prints and then put them on paper.  I quickly washed his hands with babywipes before starting doing the same with K.  Once done MrR was in fits laughing as I did the handprints for the wings the wrong way round which meant it looked nothing like an angel rather two sets of different coloured handprints.

I then decided on my way to bed to make some salt dough to make decorations for the tree. These seemed to work OK but as it was so late rather than put them into a low oven I left them out to dry.  In the morning I put them into the oven to dry out which they seemed to do.  A day or so later I said to MrR that I needed to paint them with my two when he told me he binned them as they were turning black- I didn’t see them so have no idea if they were or he just hated the homemadeness of them!

Next plan is to make some Christmas cards but as I am working the weekend in a cold warehouse I’m not sure when it will fit in!

Thankfully I didn’t miss k’s school play- it’s was this morning, her school trip which is next week as is her last day of term.  I really need to get organised – any tips would be very welcome.

what do you do to stay organised?

Do you say yes when really you mean no? Do you take on too much and end up stressed and under pressure rather than let things or people down?

I do all of the above. I offer to help, do extra bits of work take on small tasks etc and end up snowed under.

I hate letting people down and hate saying no to something as who knows where it could lead. I also like to help others as I know I appreciate help when it’s offered.

So where is the limit when do I figure that saying no is ok and that others won’t judge me badly?

Failing that any idea where I can get one of the cloning things they had in Harry potter where they could go back in time to fit in more things into the day?

Am looking forward to getting home to my bed tonight but have a mountain of work that will keep my mind ticking over for many hours!

I am exhausted and need time off but it’s not going to happen!
