Buster was born in May 2009 and within two weeks started to show reactions to food that I ate(he was BF) on advice of the HV I removed dairy from my diet. He improved slightly but then after a while I removed egg and soya from my diet too.
On advice of the dietitian we tried him on formula milk which he hated and which gave him eczema. We also started to keep fish and oats out of his diet.

At all appointments all we heard was how big and healthy looking he is and that we shouldn’t worry. The fact that he had recurring episodes of being in extreme discomfort and pain didn’t seem to be enough of a reason for us to worry…..

When he reacts it normally follows a similar pattern, after about 3-5 hours his temperature increases often to 39 degrees, his stomach gets distended and rock hard, he screams in pain, won’t allow you to touch or comfort him, often gets a rash on his face, has a runny nose and horrendous nappies and wind.

We have so far brought him to gps, dietitians, an allergy clinic where he had negative reactions to all tests and finally we paid for a private consultation with a paediatrician. No-one can see what is wrong apparently the high temperature isn’t consistent with an allergy, intolerance so what is it that is wrong!

Buster is such a happy friendly little boy who more than meets his milestones- at 2 years old he can easily ride around on a scooter cycle his sisters bike(with stabilisers) climb anything that is near him, run, talk, build bricks etc so I can understand how hard it is to see that something is wrong but the fact remains there is something annoying him and I really want to find out what it is.

We are now waiting for the next reaction to occur and if it happens with the working week we will get him to the hospital and get blood and urine tests done by the private paediatrician and then as they no doubt will come back negative we will then need to go back to the allergy clinic.

The follow up letter from the private paediatrician Dr S has spoken to the allergy specialist Dr W and he remembers Buster well- he would as I lodged a written complaint after out appointment which he did reply to with a personal letter which went through all my points etc- and in it its says he is willing to try a food test within a hospital environment which will either prove that I have been telling the truth about the symptoms all along and something is wrong or will vindicate the doctors in their belief that I am a raving mad mum!!
