K decided she wanted a puppet theatre for her birthday at the start of June.  I turned to Pinterest as usual for ideas but couldn’t find what I wanted.

I then had a brainwave of using an old bookcase for the theatre and decorating it.   We brought the bookcase out of storage, broke the back off it along with taking out a shelf.

I then cut a curtain in half and hemmed both raw edges before stapling it to the wooden frame, I overlaid the top with blue felt and used the same felt to cover the bottom

so far it is as below:

I need to add ribbons as tie backs and a blind to hide what is going on before the show starts.  Should I have letters on the top on the blue felt?

I have so far made two puppets well three actually but one is too small! I have made

  • an elephant- tiny and won’t be any use to K
  • a girl which is nearly finished just needs face embroidered on
  • another elephant this time more than big enough

I want to make

  • a boy
  • a dog
  • a fairy

We already have two puppets here a pig and a teddy bear so I think lots of random shows will be happening in our house soon.  I might also make some sock puppets if I have time.

I will take photos of the puppets tomorrow and do an updated post

Well I finally finished the felt playhouse and thought I would do a bit of a round up post showing where I got the ideas from etc. I am also using it to join in with this months pinaddicts hosted by Simplyoutnumbered

The initial felt playhouse picture came via Pinterest but was from Homemade by Jill

I adapted it as our table was a lot bigger and as such I added on different parts etc and made up a lot from my head.

I ordered all my felt from fabricland and found them extremely helpful and even with the courier charge they wee still cheaper than buying locally.  I ordered stick on velcro too but found this useless and most has ended up in the bin.  I had tried it on the door but have now left it open.  I need to replace the velcro on the fruit on the tree and will probably use poppers instead.

Buster loved the playhouse and I will get some new photos of it in use added asap- he has been sick from his birthday so we haven’t had a chance for photos.

Edited to add new photos- the house was played with and they had great fun!

I have posted about this already in the posts below:

Buster’s birthday is just one week away and as I haven’t been able to do any sewing recently I decided to get onto it tonight.  I have taken photos of where I am so far.

I have still got to sew up three flowers complete with rigid stems, a donut, and finish the corn on the cobs.  I still have to make an open and closed sign, sew on a button for the kennel so the flap can stay lifted and fix the curtains.

I have a problem with the shop window and would love some help- I cut it too big and as such the window collapses in on itself.  I don’t know what to do to fix it.
