Craft

I enjoy sewing, crocheting, baking and have tried scrap-booking, card-making and glass painting in the past.

I try and do crafty things most weeks and will link up both my craft and the child friendly craft we do to this link.

If you ever want to ask questions, enquire about purchasing something I have made please contact me at twopointfourchildren@hotmail.co.uk or @twopointfourchi

A few months ago I started to make dolls and crafts and have posted pictures on here before now on the things I have produced.  I thought it might be an idea to sell some on rather than fill the house with more toys.

Then came a huge spanner in the works CE marking – all toys or items that look like a toy and may be off interest to children need to be tested to comply with CE standards.  In investigating this it seemed like a huge nightmare and hassle with certificates being required for so many different things, burn tests, tension tests etc. - it all started to both confuse and annoy me.

Roll on a while with no monkeys being made and I found two extremely helpful Facebook pages that have been set up to help and guide people through the process.  I have now finally just finished testing my basic sock monkey and he has passed.  Once I get my admin side sorted I can happily mark any monkeys made in the same way and know I am complying with trading standards.  Without the Facebook groups I would still be pulling my hair out and if you read this post that’s something I really shouldn’t be doing!

Next up it will be testing for my cloth dolls but I need a rest before I start that!

Tonight I had some time and tried a few different tutorials on Mrs Bakers online cake school.  I also finally took some photos of the babies I made a couple of weeks ago.

While none are anywhere near as good as Mrs Bakers and the colours aren’t right as I was using precoloured paste and not dying any specifically for the models etc.

K and Buster will love waking up to see their cupcakes for school/the childminders and even better Buster can eat his!

The tutorials are so easy to follow and I loved the tulips video as I could pause and rewind if I got stuck. I also love the guide to all equipment needed and am building up a wish list until then I make do with tools I have at home.

I will try these again when we have an occasion and will keep you all updated on my progress

I was given a years membership to the online school but all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Handcrafted

I have spent the last few weeks trying to set up some stock for a new venture that I hope to do in the evenings/spare time!!

I have rediscovered my love of sewing – I did it for A-level but haven’t really done much in the last few years.  At the minute I have been concentrating on making sock monkeys and cloth dolls using patterns bought from dolls and daydreams.

I am loving making the dolls and am just about stopping myself from buying numerous patterns from the website until I figure what I can do with all the dolls I make.

I am awaiting details from my local council about trading requirements etc to see if I could sell the dolls and monkeys and will have to slow down in my production in case they say no- otherwise they will be filling up every room!
