Well now that I have recovered from the long weekend I have managed to upload the
photographs taken at Sunflowerfest. This was our first ever camping trip and first festival so we were going in at the deep end!
Heavy rain threatened to ruin the festival and on the Friday morning I found my tent deep in water due to the guy ropes having fallen overnight. After drying it out I sorted out my car read as abandoned my car in a lay-by and went back to the festival to volunteer. Due to heavy rain the car-parking field was closed and mayhem ensued.
MrR was met with a nightmare and finally ended up in Hillsborough waiting for a lift- this was after the police had threatened him with a fixed penalty notice if he didn’t (along with many others) move his car. The worst bit was that after he got to Hillsborough people were allowed to park in the field again! We didn’t get to collect his car until Sunday night!
I volunteered at the Kidzone and had a great three days which saw me outside in sun and rain- thankfully more sun than rain! I loved watching Jim doing willow sculpting, listening to the puppet show, watching the Belfast children’s circus, making bunting for oxfam trying out some circus skills along with many other things. The children all seemed to love it apart from a couple of babies who got scared by the puppets!
There were dance classes and fairy tree-house making, boogie babies and yoga for children. face painting, hair braiding (which fell out straight away) toys and games and of course footballs!
We loved the Campfire stage and enjoyed Brassroots, Ursula Burns, Colum Sands and others and wished they had been on for longer. The noise levels here were better for K and Buster and the music suited us a lot better than the main arena.
I have never seen so much mud and wellies were an essential piece of clothing! K and Buster loved splashing in puddles and squelching in the mud. Buster had such fun that he fell asleep at 18:00 on the first day!
We really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and the feeling on the site. People were helpful and eager to assist and this went a long way. The volunteers I met and got speaking to were lovely and I hope we get to meet up again in the future.
Sunflowerfest you succeeded in making a camper out of my non camping husband! we will be back fingers crossed next year!
All opinions are my own and I will be reimbursed for my ticket cost only due to volunteering and not for writing this post.
