Relocation, Relocation

I have been in 3 2 minds recently about whether or not we should relocate.  An internal job has come up in work and I am so torn as to whether to apply.

I know applying does not mean I will be offered the position but I would like to be sure it is right for my family before I would even take this first step.

negatives to relocating

Moving would mean we are further away from all family and not just a few minutes’ drive from everyone.  We would have no childcare help, no friends and no social life – the last one would be no different to now!

The children would have to change schools, there is no NHS and it would be a different currency to get to grips with.

MrR would have to give up work or see if he could change to a different branch which he is adamant he couldn’t.  Travel costs would increase as would my commuting time.

We would become the new people and would have to integrate into a new way of life and a people who hang back this would be a hard one for us.

there are positives to relocating though!

I would not have to travel and stay overnight away from my family. I would have more career opportunities and this would technically be a promotion.  I would stay within the company I enjoy working for but would get a new restored focus and drive to push myself forward.  There would hopefully be more money and security and maybe even some added benefits.

So why am I delaying so much in getting my CV into order – what do you tell a company about yourself when you have worked for them for 9 of the last 13 years (I had a break in the middle)?

So do I go for it or not?

Oh and we wouldn’t be going too far just about 80 miles up the road!!

Amended to add I have been brave and applied so let’s see how that goes!

Oh that’s a tough one! What does your heart tell you? Is husband keen or reluctant? Would you regret NOT applying? Sorry – more questions than answers there!

    Ooooh! Big decision!!!

We spent a year in England for my husband’s job, with no guarantee of return – I hated the uncertainty, but it was a great year, AND we got to come back to N Ireland.

Being away from family support probably the biggest change for you – hugs and prayers for you as you decide!
