When is a bargain not a bargain?

seemingly when you shop at Tesco!

In follow up to this post I decided to buy a cheap/bargain 6 man tent rather than borrow a small 4 man dome tent.   I went on to Tesco Direct and found a Tent on sale that would work well this year in case we vowed never to camp again!

I tried to place the order on Thursday night but just after placing the items into my basket it failed and I gave up, the tent was out of stock and I went to bed.

The next morning the tent was back in stock and so I tried again.  I ordered the tent, 2 adults chairs, 2 cheap sleeping bags (to put on top of the air beds) and a half price folding bench set.  The order seemed to go through but after entering my card details the site said it couldn’t complete and to try again later.

I checked my emails to see if it had confirmed the order and when it hadn’t I tried again a few more times.

At 08:00 I gave up and then realised my bank balance had reduced.  I called Tesco they had no record of any orders, so I called my bank they had three payments all sitting in the outgoing queue to Tesco waiting for them to be claimed.  I called back to Tesco and got nowhere.  I tried again and finally got a man who took all the details and called me back but as yet no idea when my money will be returned.

I then stupidly called the order line and placed the order by phone as they were showing out of stock online but stock available by phone.  When placing the order the folding bench set wasn’t half price and the money off voucher wouldn’t work.  The man I was dealing with though said if I paid upfront he would refund me the £17.50 for the difference as Tesco had been having major problems with their systems all week.

This time I ordered the tent, 2 children’s chairs, and the fold up bench set as nothing else was in stock.

Not long after I got an email to say the £17.50 would be refunded and show up in 3-4 working days.  This morning I got an email to say that the children’s chairs were now out of stock and a refund of £5.58 would show in my bank in 3-4 working days.

So as it stands my bargain tent and fold up bench have resulted in £304.12 being deducted from my bank account and as yet I have no idea when I will receive the £210.54 back into my account

Every little helps is their motto but that doesn’t mean they can help themselves to the little that is in my bank account!

Tesco I doubt I will ever use your online or telephone service ever again.  If you knew that you were having problems with the systems why on earth was there nothing on the website stating this.  Why are you having so much trouble getting me my money back, you can take it quick enough!

Can you raise a chargeback with card company? Sounds pretty unreasonable to have to wait for your money.
