operation birthday present (90/365)

Now that the felt has arrived in a huge parcel, I have most shapes etc. cut out and had my trusty sewing machine out for an hour tonight.  Had to quickly move everything when Buster woke and came running up to the sitting room.  Am hoping to get two sides finished this weekend and start on the food/fruit/fiddly bits during the week.

Can you recommend me a decent machine please? I have a basic John Lewis one that my hub got me to see if I took it to it! It now has loads of limitations, for example I wanted to do a project with a zipper in, no zipper foot, just a plastic regular one!
What amount should I be spending on a decent upgrade that will allow me to do more….I am still very much a novice sewer though! ;) x x

Hmm I am very out of touch with machines as this one was bought about 10 years ago but is still going strong. I would guess you would get a ha;f decent one for about £100 or why not try gumtree or ebay? something like this one looks good? http://www.johnlewis.com/302367/Product.aspx
