Where do you stand on allowing children to watch horror movies??

My husband took K tonight to see a horror movie at 4 she may have been considered to be a bit young but we thought it was ok. They had to leave after an important character in the film was eaten by a shark- K was in tears and was taken home for cuddles.

I think we need to rethink our idea of what is suitable for our nearly 5 year old daughter to watch as I never thought Finding Nemo was that scary!!
